Hello, Our daughter Ashley Pluta is 40 years old. In November of 2022, our daughter was diagnosed with kidney disease. In August of 2023, she had seen a specialist who informed us that due to her being born with smaller kidneys she developed high blood pressure and diabetes. The specialist had instructed her that she would need a kidney transplant. In the short time when we found out to now, she has moved to Stage 5 kidney failure. Our family has tried to become a donor, but unfortunately, we do not match her blood type.
Ashley’s blood type is O with high antibodies which makes it more difficult to find a match. Even though type O is the universal blood type, she would require a kidney that is also an O. Ashley has done everything she could do to keep herself mentally and physically ready for this procedure. Ashley has completed all tests required and is ready for surgery at IU Health in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Ashley grew up in a military family. Her father served as a Marine for 10 years. Throughout his military career, our family has lived in North Carolina, Japan, Washington D.C. and Hawaii. We finally made our way back to Indiana in 1990 where she grew up with her brother in the small town of Pierceton IN. After high school, Ashley started a family of her own. A beautiful girl and a very loving husband. She has a wonderful job at Lake City Bank. She has been dedicated to the company for 11 years. As a mother, I am kind of biased, but my daughter is one of the most kind and honest people I know. She cares for her family, her friends, and she does anything for anyone.
This process has been difficult for Ashley. We have now started fundraising for our daughter. We will need any donation for travel to IU Health Center which is 125 miles from her house. With a Kidney transplant, it will be required that she travels to and from the hospital for checkups throughout the 6 weeks after her transplant. There will also be medicine and medical expenses that are unfortunately not covered by Insurance. We are providing other means for fundraising.
While the emotional and physical aspects of kidney donation are significant, the financial burden associated with such procedures cannot be overlooked. Medical bills, post-surgery care, and medication can quickly add up, creating an overwhelming financial strain on our daughter. Your support will help alleviate these worries, allowing us to focus on what truly matters; giving our daughter a second chance at a healthy life.
The journey to securing a kidney donation for our daughter is filled with hope and challenges. Your contribution whether big or small, plays an invaluable role in making this journey a reality. As this journey moves forward we will be updating all of you. Thank you for your support, and for any help you may offer.
