Hello Everyone,
My name is Cirsten and a good friend of mine, Katie Rydell, had to say goodbye to her little sister. Many people have been reaching out and wondering how they can support Katie and her family in this time so I decided to create this go fund me to help alleviate some of the cost to lay her to rest. As we all know, there is nothing that will take away the pain.
The details below have been taken from Katie’s Facebook page.
“When we found out Ashley had cancer mid December it had already spread to other parts of her body. The doctors recently explained to us why her biopsy results came back inconclusive. It was because it had spread so much that they can’t determine what the primary cancer is. However, based on the positive markers, one of the doctors told me he would guess it started as ovarian cancer. So without getting a formal diagnosis from the doctors I would say she had “metastatic ovarian cancer to the lungs.”
My sister had an extremely tough battle to fight and man did she fight!!! Her oxygen continued to drop extremely low but she continued to power through and fight to bring it back to a stable range. She was being treated in the ICU and she received her first chemo round on 1/5. Unfortunately, she was having such a hard time breathing they had to put her on a ventilator on 1/8. They gave her sedating and paralytic medication to minimize discomfort but she continued to fight!
Tuesday night we received a scare but then things started to improve once again Wednesday afternoon. By Wednesday night/ early morning her oxygen started dropping once again and now her blood pressure started to drop. Thursday morning she was given more medications to try and get her back to a stable state. Thursday afternoon Ashley’s kidneys had started to show signs of failing. Around 9 pm Thursday night my baby sister’s heart just couldn’t take it no more and she took her last breath.
I’m truly at a loss for words and I’m utterly devastated. My heart is in so much pain, I just continue to think this has to be a nightmare that I need to wake up from. This is just not fair!! All of this happened so fast and honestly it’s been hard for us to process. We have been on a complete emotional rollercoaster with many ups and downs. My family and I would like to thank everyone for keeping my little sister in their thoughts and prayers and for everyone that has reached out. “
