Ashley through her medical nightmare

My name is Amber, and I made this go fund me to help a dear friend of mine, Ashley, while she is going through some really difficult times. In 2021 she was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer and had a partial thyroidectomy done. Over the last 2 years the cancer had been growing on the remainder of her thyroid and her lymph nodes were also extremely enlarged. On 4/12/23 she underwent a completion thyroidectomy and modified radical neck dissection to remove the remaining from her neck. Though hoping this surgery would go as smoothly as the last, she has had numerous complications. Within 3 hours of being released from the hospital, she collapsed on the bathroom floor and ended up back in the ER. Two days later she had one of her 2 drains removed at a follow up appointment with her surgeon. By the end of that weekend she was back in the emergency room with severe swelling, extremely high heart rate, difficulty swallowing, breathing, and more. She was told she had a bad case of cellulitis which created pockets of infection throughout her neck and chest and was now surrounding her heart. If she had waited a few more hours, the infection would have taken over her body. She was transported from her local hospital to the ICU at Baylor S&W 2 hours away, where her surgery was originally performed. She is home now and on very heavy doses of medications, slowly starting to recover, however still feeling so many symptoms. Once she is overcomes the infection, she will start speech therapy for a paralyzed vocal fold which now prevents her from swallowing, speaking, etc. She will go to months worth of PT to regain use of her right shoulder and neck. She will also be starting radioactive iodine treatment very soon and will need to stay in a hotel with meals delivered to her as she can not come in contact with other people or pets while radiating.

Unfortunately this also means that she will have to miss more work. She is trying to get back ASAP because she realizes that bills don't stop and the medical bills are going to start adding up. Ashley is also a full-time college student who moved to Texas to pursue a degree in Animal Science.

Since moving, Ashley is not close to her family and her loving, supportive, boyfriend is doing his best to get back to work and take care of her on his own, but he obviously can't be in two places at once.

Ashley is such a strong-willed, caring, person she did not want a go fund me. She knows there are people going through far worse than she is that need the help, but her family and I truly believe that she deserves this relief of financial burden so there is at least one less thing for her to worry about while she heals. Throughout everything she has gone through, she never stopped worrying about the people around her going through their own things. Every time I check on her she always checks on my kids and myself before worrying about her herself because that is the kind of person she is. Any little bit helps to ease the stress of financials through an already stressful and terrifying time for her. Ashley, her boyfriend, her family and myself thank everyone for any and all support from the bottom of our hearts.
