Ashley Grmela Medical Fund

Donation protected

Ashley is the daughter of Andy and Sandra Grmela. She is a 7th grader at West Middle School. She has been diagnosed with Celiac Disease as well as Visceral Hyperalgesia.  Before this, she was involved in dance, volleyball, and band.  Now, she is not able to walk without assistance.  Please read her story below and donate whatever you are able to in order to help this family with the flood of medical bills.
She has been sick since 11/5/16. Her symptoms started with severe nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, headache, no appetite and feeling full.
Immediately Ashley was taken to the Emergency Room to try to find the cause, with no luck. She still felt the same, so her parents continued to take her to many doctor/specialists appointments, ER visits, and she underwent numerous tests.
After suffering almost 2 months with no answers, the week of Christmas she was diagnosed with Celiac Disease. Unfortunately, the diet change did not change any of her symptoms.
As Ashley's sickness progressed, she continued to get weaker, lose weight, was dehydrated several times, and started having severe muscle spasms that lasted hours. On January 11th, 2017, Ashley was taken to Cook's Hospital in Ft. Worth with hopes that they could answer their prayers and find a resolution.  Ashley was admitted for further testing. By that point, she had lost so much weight and became malnourished.  A feeding tube was placed in order to provide her with the nutrition she so desperately needed.
The doctors diagnosed her with Visceral Hyperalgesia, which is increased sensitivity to pain in the internal organs. After 15 days in the hospital, Ashley was released to go home with medication to help her condition and the feeding tube to help provide her nutrition.
Since then, Ashley has lost a total of 15 pounds and is not able to walk without assistance.  After a week her feeding tube started to clog. Finally at the 3rd ER visit to Cooks for the same reason, her feeding tube was replaced. Her symptoms worsened again, so she was admitted for another 5 days.   The symptoms keep returning and she is having to be taken to the ER once or twice a week to try to overcome this.

Currently Ashley is about to start physical therapy and continue to try to eat more, so she can get the feeding tube removed. At this point Ashley is unable to physically return back to school, so she will be on home bound. She has a long road to recovery, but we are trusting in God's plan and know He will see her through.

Please donate to help Ashley and her family pay for the doctor, ER, hospital, and equipment/supplies bills. Prayers are very much appreciated! Thank you!!
