Ashton's Healing & Full Recovery

What if your child was in a coma? As many of you know, our nephew, grandson, brother, friend, teammate, Ashton (12 years old) was admitted to the hospital July 10, 2020 to address severe migraines that seemed to have popped up overnight.  On Sunday he was playing baseball and hitting dingers and by Monday he was in the ER in severe pain.  Matt and Krissy had to beg the Cleveland Clinic to admit him as they were watching their son's health deteriorate at a rapid rate.  5 days later,  Ashton was put into a medically induced coma as they determined he was having seizures that were causing the migraines.  However, it would take spinal taps, CAT and PET scans, EEGs, MRIs and a multitude of blood tests to get to the current diagnosis of anti-NMDA.    Basically, Ashton's immune system was attacking his brain.    The current treatment for Ashton consists of a cocktail of anti-seizure medications, vitamins, and immunosuppressants (just what you want during a pandemic - NOT!)  Matt and/or Krissy have been at the hospital with Ashton day and night to be there for their son, to advocate for him, and to help with physical therapy.    As of February 6, 2021, it’s been 211 days. As you can imagine, the financial and emotional strain on their family is immense.  Ashton is making great progress everyday and Matt has been documenting their journey on Facebook.
