Ask For Clive is an inclusivity campaign, and sticker on the door that says "Everyone is Welcome Here." From 2016/17 to 2017/18 the UK government reported a 27% increase in hate crimes around sexual orientation, and a 32% increase towards the transgender community. We also know that up to 80% of such incidents go unreported, especially among younger victims. Owing to this recorded increase in discriminatory behaviour, we initially aimed at providing safe and welcoming spaces to the community in Hertfordshire, encouraging both witnesses and victims to report hate crime on site. After a successful launch which saw the campaign featured on BBC Breakfast and ITV News, we are now in over two thousand venues nationally and have a target of twenty thousand by end of 2020.
Demand for the campaign has been extraordinary and without funding we are unable to keep pace with the requests from all types of venues across the country that want to share this message. We are featured not only in pubs and bars but also in cafes, art galleries, theatres, universities and colleges, youth clubs, camp sites and many more. We have stickers on doors from Land’s End to Orphir in the Shetland Islands. We are a positive campaign that promotes safe spaces for all. We also want to ensure that any incidents of abuse are dealt with appropriately by venues and treated seriously.
A contribution towards Ask For Clive will help us to provide visibly safe spaces and call out that homophobia and transphobia are not acceptable and will not be tolerated in our partner venues. We are also working with key venues and corporate partners to increase education around gender and sexuality, please help us make a difference. Funds raised will go towards financing stickers and fulfilment, site visits to train and educate partners, and raising awareness of the campaign.
