Community Market Asking for Community Support
Donation protected
Our family just purchased a grocery store in the middle of a food desert, in Richmond, VA. We took this giant leap to help build up the community we live in and bring more healthy accessible foods to our neighbors. With this giant leap we have come up against some big challenges such as, refrigeration system repair, roof and ceiling repairs, healthy food procurement, cosmetic upgrading for the store and that just names a few things we are actively working on.
We are so excited about Darrell's Family Supermarket because it gives our neighbors an opportunity to provide healthy meals for their families close to home, for a reasonable price. The location and name of this community market holds a tremendous amount of sentimental value to our family. Our mother worked just a couple doors down when she was a teenager. She has vivid memories of the grocery store that was there when she was a young woman. It means so much to her, to now own the very building in which she use to shop at and walk past every day to work in her younger years, pretty nostalgic. The name of the store also holds extreme sentimental value because it is named after our mothers late brother and our late uncle, Darrell Thompson. His kind and gentle soul knew no stranger, everyone was family. And that is how we will operate our market, we will know no strangers when you walk in our store, you will walk out family!
Gaining the support of our community means the world to us. We are working hard to make sure that all families in our community will be able to thrive and have access to what all the other communities around us have, healthy fresh food options. We are excited about making this an even playing field for all of our neighbors, and having the community behind us makes all the hard work worth it.
Our family is working diligently to try to get this market up and running. We have families stop by religiously to see when we will open. We are trying to open to customers in the beginning of the new year, 2021, but we need your help! It would mean so much to our family and our community if you would be gracious enough to help us raise funds for these repairs. Every little bit helps from $1 to $1000, we will be appreciative.
We will outwardly show our appreciation by placing the names of the people who donate on our, Darrell's Family Supermarket, "family tree". This "family tree" will be displayed on the wall for all those who enter and exit the market to see. Without the help of our community family, Darrell's Family Supermarket will not thrive. So, we are thanking you in advance for your donations and continued support!
