Support Assata's House Mission

Assata’s House began as a vision—one rooted in healing, liberation, and the unwavering commitment to creating sanctuaries where Black women and girls could disarm their nervous systems, reclaim their bodies, and experience holistic care. This vision addresses the deep, systemic issues of violence, despair, and neglect that disproportionately affect Black communities, especially Black women and girls. In a world that often denies them access to culturally competent wellness resources, Assata’s House fills that critical gap.

The name Assata, meaning "she who struggles," honors Assata Shakur, whose resistance to systemic injustice remains an enduring inspiration. True to this legacy, Assata’s House is more than a healing arts program—it is a transformative space, modeling communal care, equity, and sustainability to reimagine how we nurture and empower one another.

A Vision Come True

Assata’s House recently hosted a Care Hub at Studio 34, where we supported 35 BIPOC femmes, including mothers and infants. This gathering was a vision come true—a much-needed space for care providers to gather, relax, laugh, and be cared for. These spaces of connection are vital, and our care providers truly deserve them. This event not only provided wellness services but also helped foster a sense of community and empowerment, embodying the very mission of Assata’s House.

The Journey of Assata’s House

The creation of Assata’s House has been a journey of deep intention and dedication. The project grew from Raylá White-Spraggins’ earlier work, particularly A Moment for Rest (March 2022), which emphasized the importance of rest and restoration during a challenging time. The project has evolved into a comprehensive blueprint for community care, driven by a commitment to addressing the urgent needs within our communities.

Assata’s House is now an independent initiative, and though it began under different circumstances, its core values—centered on healing, liberation, and community-driven care—remain strong.

A Commitment to Integrity and Sustainability

The recent Care Hub at Studio 34 is a perfect example of Assata’s House’s dedication to sustainability. We continue to prioritize spaces where Black women and girls can heal, rest, and reclaim their power.

We are committed to creating ongoing opportunities for these transformative spaces to exist—spaces where wellness, relaxation, and community-building can thrive. It is this ongoing work that makes Assata’s House a sanctuary of care, resistance, and healing.
