Hello Friends of Ash Creek in East Dallas~
(nature lovers and conservation peeps)
On February 24, 2021 neighbors on Ash Creek witnessed two back hoes destroying all living plant life, as well as wildlife habitat, from the top of Dallas ISD top bank all the way to the creek's edge! The destruction included one large bois'darc tree, two hackberry trees, and damaged the Austin Chalk along a roughly 6,500 square foot clear cut area. It left a fragile creek bank at almost a 90 degree angle in some places, which professionals say will be challenging fro DISD to remediate.
A previously healthy riparian (creek bank) environment was completely destroyed. This unnecessary destruction was done for the much needed renovations to Bryan Adams High School - which we all support! DISD has publicly apologized and offered to remediate. We all love and respect nature, wildlife and waterways. We are now bonded to Save Ash Creek Dallas!
Therefore, we are asking for your financial support to help us meet this unexpected crisis. Your input and ideas are welcome.
We 're raising money for:
• Consulting fees for remediation of damage (DISD requested neighbor's input on current remediation Landscape remediation plan).
• Signs along Ash Creek to make all aware of the destruction.
• Flyer Printing - to pass out to the streets along the creek.
• Postage
• Perhaps more native plant life after DISD finishes their remediation/mitigation
• Perhaps hire teenagers to distribute flyers

Silver lining - the neighborhoods have rallied! We have met new neighbors upstream and downstream. All drawn together for our love of our beautiful community creek. The hope and dream is after we monitor DISD's remediation we will continue to come together as a creek community to let our children play safely in the creek, teach Bryan Adam's students biology and geology and create community trash pick-up events.
FYI: Ash Creek flows into White Rock Creek below White Rock Lake and then into the Trinity River. It is challenging to track due to occasionally going underground and due to the developers in the 1950's that built cul de sacs along winding streets with changing names.
Thank you for your consideration,
Ash Creek Dallas Neighbors
