Dear Friends and Family,
It is with great sadness that I write to inform you of the passing of Edwin F. Perez. Edwin tragically lost his life battling pulmonary fibrosis. Edwin served honorably in the United States Marine Corps for 20 years, retiring in 1999 and reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant. After retiring from the Marine Corps, Edwin began his career with the California Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation as a cadet at the Richard A. McGee Correctional Training Center in July 1999. He graduated from the Basic Correctional Officer Academy and reported to Ironwood State Prison in October 1999. Edwin dedicated himself to his work at Ironwood until his retirement in December 2022.
In addition to his professional career, Edwin was actively involved with the American Legion. He served as the American Legion District 21 Past Sergeant at Arms, American Legion Post 742 Past Commander, and American Legion Post 574 Executive Committee Member. He also served two years in the California State Military Reserve. Edwin was also an avid marathon and 5k runner.
The family is facing considerable challenges in covering the costs for expenses. A GoFundMe page has been established to help alleviate this financial burden and help the family with any additional expenses resulting from this tragedy. If you are able to contribute, no matter the amount, we would be incredibly grateful. Your generosity during this difficult time means more to us than words can express.
Thank you for your thoughts, prayers, and any assistance you can offer as we navigate through this heartbreaking loss.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness, support, and consideration.
With sincere appreciation,
Perez Family
