Assist John and Laylonna in Rebuilding Their RV Home
Donation protected
We are John and Laylonna Hurley. We have been traveling with our two cats (Oliver and Tobias) for 3 years. Unlike vacations and weekend camping trips our RV has become our home. On Saturday, July 6th while traveling west on I-80 near LaSalle IL, the engine compartment caught fire. Before the fire was extinguished, the flames extended to the RV destroying most of our personal and professional effects.
What we are most thankful for is that the family was not injured. We start the recovery journey. Many sentimental items were lost and cannot be replaced. These are the psychological injuries. Unfortunately, we will relive that sad day for many to come.
We are not accustomed to turning to others for help, but our family and friends have encouraged us to engage the community to try and fill the financial gap. We have already been touched by the many people sharing their deep sympathies and eagerness to assist us.
We searched for services that might be available for people experiencing total loss of their RV home and were not able to find one. This has inspired us to research the viability of starting a non-profit that will be available to full time RVers that have experienced a total loss of their RV home due to fire, accident, or weather event. This will depend on the response of our GoFundMe. We would like to combine the financial need with a database of individuals and organizations that can provide temporary housing. These are two areas that can make a significant difference to people while trying to process the trauma of losing one's home.
