Assist Lucas in Completing His Transition

Hey, it's Lucas, and I'm back on GoFundMe raising funds to cover the travel, medical, and living costs of my last gender-affirming surgery. This final procedure will help me complete this beautiful journey I've been on since 2018.

As with my last surgery, this one will be at the University of Michigan, about a 12-hour drive from my home in northern Wisconsin. I'll be in the hospital overnight and stay in hotels for a couple of days surrounding the surgery. Afterwards, I think I only have one or two in-person visits that I'll have to travel for, with other appointments (mercifully) being telemed appointments.

My surgery is scheduled for the morning of January 28th, now less than a month away. I'm beyond excited to get this over with - there are no more steps planned for me after this one. After seven years of a non-stop battle with insurance companies, I can just be done and move on with this part of my life... and go back to my other part-time job of fighting with my diabetes care, which, incidentally, ended up with me in the hospital for most of last week in diabetic ketoacidosis, but that's a whole 'nother thing...

Compared to my last surgery in October 2023, this one will be similar in recovery horribleness and length, completely dependent on my partner for the first few weeks, and mostly stuck at home for 8 weeks, unable to work during this time. Recovery will be challenging, as it'll just be me and Aubrey, with no family or roommates to help, so this time I will be hiring a friend who is a transition doula to help as a caregiver through this last step, and I am very grateful for that assistance.

The urgency of all of this is heightened by the political climate here in the US. While I acknowledge that my privilege limits the chances that my healthcare will be impacted by the incoming administration, I am feeling a ton of pressure to get myself in as secure of a situation as possible. For me, this means getting a new passport, updating all the documents I can, and getting myself as physically safe as I can be. All support is appreciated more than I can possibly explain.
