Support for Joseph Grant Jr's Unexpected Passing
Born February 15, 1994
My name is Sheena and I am starting my first GoFundMe for one of my best friends, Stacey Grant. It's with a heavy heart that I am requesting support during this unimaginably difficult time for her. Stacey's beloved son tragically passed away at the age of 30 while on vacation in Puerto Rico. The unexpected death of a child at any age is unfathomable; needless to say Stacey has been gutted. We are all devastated by this sudden loss. Stacey is struggling to cope not only with the emotional, but also the financial burden it has brought upon she and her small family.
Joey was a vibrant, loving, and dedicated man who brought joy to everyone who met him (definitely taking after his mom in that way!). He was a hard working salesman at General Motors where he was celebrated for his achievements. He won Salesman of the Month multiple times and received the prestigious "Mark of Excellence" award for superior sales volume and customer satisfaction.
Joey had a passion for life and a thirst for knowledge. He was the reason Stacey started the homeschool group SOS (Secular in the Ocean State), which eventually merged into enrichRI.org. Joey became a lifelong learner, someone who thrived on knowledge and who was excited by space, history, politics, finance, and sports. His enthusiasm for learning and exploration was contagious and inspired many around him. Joey loved lizards, and he had 2, along with 2 dogs and 2 cats that were shared with his former wife. Stacey was so proud of Joey; of both of her kids. Joey also left behind his younger sister, Maegan. Joey was a loving older brother and a wonderful son to Stacey. I have always looked up to and admired my 'bestie' Stacey in many ways, especially in that she has the kind of relationship with her kids that I myself as a parent aspire to have with my own when they're adults. Stacey has said that both of her children inspired her to be a better person, friend, and mother.. Well, you couldn't ask for a better friend, in my opinion. If you're lucky enough to be one of Stacey's friends then you know what I mean, and we can thank Joey and Maegan for the inspiration.
Joey, like so many, struggled with alcoholism. He was on vacation and set to return home from Puerto Rico on Saturday, May 25, 2024. Joey died in Puerto Rico on Saturday, May 25, 2024 of acute liver failure from alcohol disease. Stacey flew to PR Saturday morning and lost a part of herself on Saturday night. Stacey's daughter, Maegan, sister Marie, and mother are the only relatives she has left, though she is surrounded with the close friends that have become family to her, myself included.
The unexpected nature of Joey's death has placed a significant financial strain on Stacey. She booked a last minute flight to get to Joey. She is faced with the costs of bringing Joey back home from Puerto Rico, arranging a proper memorial service, burial, and managing all other related expenses. These costs are overwhelming, and she is in urgent need of assistance to honor Joe's memory and give him the farewell he deserves.
I am humbly asking for any support you can provide during this heartbreaking time. Your donations will go directly towards covering:
Transportation of Joe's remains from Puerto Rico
Funeral and memorial service expenses
Additional costs related to his unexpected passing
Any amount, no matter how small, will make a significant difference and will be deeply appreciated.
Conclusion: On behalf of Stacey and family, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support, love, and prayers. Joey touched so many lives with his kindness, and Stacey is grateful for the outpouring of compassion during this incredibly difficult time.
