Assist the Durham Family with Funeral Expenses

My name is Alexander Durham - son of Michael and Sharlene Durham.

In October of 2023, my father was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer. Over the months, he underwent chemotherapy and radiation therapy in an attempt to slow the progress of the cancer.

He was still relatively well until June 4, 2024. At that time, he wound up hospitalized and in critical care for more than a month. He was then sent to a rehabilitation center to build his strength; however, Medicare denied his ability to remain there for more than two weeks. Afterward, he was sent home to be taken care of by my mother; though, at the time, she had a broken shoulder, so it was a struggle for her.

Now, he is entirely unable to walk and is currently finding it difficult to eat. It is with a heavy heart that I say I believe he's in his last days.

My parents lost their life insurance some years ago, and my mother has been trying to contact funeral homes in an effort to work out payment plans for my father's eventual cremation.

Currently, one of the funeral homes is willing to work with her; however, they require a hefty down payment. The total cost of all services will be $2800. They ask for a down payment of $1400, and will allow her to pay the remaining half over 6 months.

My mother and father are currently only drawing Social Security, and with my father drawing more than my mother, she will owe the entirety of his final check when he passes. As their only immediate family, I am currently unemployed - staying with them to aid in caregiving at this time.

It pains me to rely on the generosity of others, especially during this time of year, but with his rapid decline, we don't have much choice. Any donation, no matter how small, will be wholeheartedly appreciated.

My father has been my superhero since Day 1. I love him with all my heart, and losing him is a heavy weight on both my, and my mother's, hearts. I would like to be able to tell my mother that at least we will be able to take care of my father's body when he finally passes.
