Assist with Charlie E. Wolford's Funeral Mass and Burial

Charlie E. Wolford
A loving father, devoted husband, Navy veteran, a best friend to all, and a consummate deacon.

Charlie Wolford passed away on November 3, 2024, in the state of California. The family believed that Charlie had pre-arranged funeral arrangements in his hometown, however, those were not updated to accommodate the changes necessitated by his aging and ill health. Charlie was moved to California to be cared for by one of his children. At his death, the power of attorney for his estate indicated that the estate did not have sufficient funds to cover the additional expenses caused by his relocation to California and additional unexpected charges associated with his death.

The costs include:

  • Embalming at a California funeral home rather than the one contracted within Iowa
  • The costs of shipping his body to Iowa. Consultation with a lawyer advises the executor should not have to pay for shipping as that comes out of the trust and not the estate, so we have been advised not to pay per our counsel.
  • Acquisition of a coffin for burial. Power of Attorney had said this was taken care of 2 years ago.
  • Charges for engraving the existing monument.
  • Expenses for the funeral mass.
  • Additional attorney fees and processing fees associated with the estate situation.

The burial and funeral mass for Charlie has been on hold since November 3rd, 2024 due to these complications and difficulty in finding a way to finance the additional expenses. His body is being held in a facility in Nebraska and he has yet to make it home to Iowa. The funeral home requires reimbursement for shipping the body and payment for the additional funeral expenses not previously included in the agreement before moving forward and the family is struggling to get a consensus on funeral arrangements and how to pay for them.

As the executor of the estate, but not the power of attorney, I find that in many ways my hands are tied until we get the funding issues resolved and can reach a consensus. Needless to say, the stress of this situation is taking a toll on family members and we are eager to give Charlie the respectful burial he deserves.

Any funds left over will be going to a charity Charlie loved.

We sincerely, thank you for any support you might be willing to give as the family is still grieving and needs closure.
