Gloria Smallwood, sister, aunt, Nana, and dog mom, passed away this past midnight. Gloria has always been such a sweet part of our family that kept us all together. She was creative, compassionate, generous, and just an overall beam of light. We will never be able to replace Gloria in our lifetime. She always kept it real and told you how it was. She always treated me like I was flesh and blood even though I was adopted. Because of the age gap and when my mom passed away, she soon took on that mothering role, even when I didn't want it. Gloria always wanted the best for everyone.
Gloria always struggled with health issues her whole life. From being an insulin-dependent diabetic, to having a heart attack, along with lifelong depression, to eventually being diagnosed with kidney failure. Despite all of that, Gloria took care of our mother when she was sick and always tried her best to keep things as positive as possible. We are all so grief-stricken that she was sick that she skipped dialysis, not knowing that it would take her life the same day. Moments after she entered the ambulance, she went into cardiac arrest. She struggled to breathe from the fluid trapped in her body. She was dead for 6 minutes before they could bring her back. She suffered massive brain damage all over to the point where she could no longer live on her own. Sadly, Gloria didn't come back to us. All she could do was open her eyes and stare off. After we got all of the information from the doctors, our family decided that the best thing to do was help her pass on comfortably. Now we are grief-stricken with Christmas around the corner; it won't be a Christmas to enjoy. Gloria already had some of her gifts ready.
Now we are just requesting money to help with funeral expenses, a tombstone, and to help pay off some of her debts. If you can, anything at all would help.
