Communities of Peace - Colombia

The Doris Mae Case Humanitarian Foundation helps build sustainable livelihoods for people who have suffered from the impact of many years of armed conflict in Colombia. Your donation will support ongoing and new projects that develop sustainable livelihoods for families as the foundation for peaceful communities. In 2022, the Foundation funded ten projects in the municipality of Samaniego, department of Nariño, that benefitted not only the families that started new businesses or were able to increase agricultural production, but also the entire communities that surround them. While we will continue to work with these families and the local government in Samaniego, we will initiate a similar effort to assist families in the department of Chocó, where people of African descent comprise more than 80% of the population. As in other parts of the country, we will be working with local associations, municipal authorities, Colombia's National Learning Service, or SENA, and other civic and nongovernmental organizations to ensure the success of the community and family projects selected for microfinancing grant assistance for small agricultural and entrepreneurial projects. Not only do these projects support local economies by providing the tools and materials people need to achieve a better life for their families and their communities, they also promote stable, peaceful communities.
