Assistance for Al

Donation protected
On Monday, September 11, 2023, Alfonso (Al) Acerra, 59 years old, and a current 35-year police veteran with the Monmouth University Police Department underwent surgery for a condition known as OPLL (Ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament of the spine). OPLL causes serious neurological problems due to compression of the spinal cord and/or nerve roots.

Unfortunately, immediately after surgery, Al experienced and continues to suffer from paralysis from the neck down. Additionally, Al needed intubation and sedation. Presently, Al’s condition remains the same and he is hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit.

The family’s medical insurance is expected to terminate as a result of Al being on long term disability. This causes Al and his wife, Stacey, to be responsible for his and his family’s medical benefits, which are crucial; not only for himself and Stacey, but for their 16-year-old special needs daughter, who requires constant care both medically and therapeutically.

In addition to thoughts and prayers for Al, his entire family is asking for your generosity in assisting with his care and family’s financial obligations.

All donations, regardless of the amount, are greatly appreciated.

May God Bless Al and bring him to a full recovery.
