Hi, my name is Savana. My dad, Joseph Pesola, is a truck driver. On 02 November 2023, he was in a horrific, life altering accident. You can read the story here: https://www.kivitv.com/news/truck-ablaze-at-truck-stop-in-ontario
He was finally falling back into a routine after having heart surgery on 16 August 2023. Fast forward to November 2nd, he was hauling a tanker full of liquid natural gas, and the unimaginable happened: there was an explosion. Dad was transferred to an out of state burn unit in Utah. Once there, they discovered the severity of his injuries. To our horror, 67% of his body is covered in deep 3rd degree burns. He is heavily sedated and intubated, to give his body some relief.
A few hours after being admitted, they performed an Escharotomy. As I type this less than 10 hours later, he is in the OR again, as they begin to remove his burns.
Given his age, his previous heart surgery, and the severity of his injuries, he is going to need multiple surgeries and at least 6 months in the hospital. That will be his road to recovery.
My mom, Lee, needs to be by his side throughout this process. Idaho is their home, and that is also where she works. She will be unable to commit to both my dad and her job, and the obvious decision is that she stays with him. While workman's compensation and insurance take time, their needs are immediate. Mom will lose her income, in addition to dad's. They will need assistance to pay for their mortgage, hotels or an AirBnB, travel, food, unexpected expenses, as well as lost wages for this time period.
Dad has lived a selfless life. First, he served in the United States Air Force, of which he is proud. That opened the door to his attending Bible college and becoming a Pastor and Youth Pastor. But above all, he is a son, father, grandfather, and friend.
We implore our friends across the globe to give as God leads. We thank you all for your support and prayers.
