Assisted Living & Medical Bills for Cindy Hamrick

Hello, and thank you for being here!

A year ago, my mom, Cindy, had a massive stroke while running her dairy outside Durham. With this type of stroke, the probabilities of her surviving it were extremely low, but despite it all, she has powered through and worked hard to recover. Cindy's stroke has left her 90% paralyzed on her left side, but through a period spent in a rehabilitation facility and with a friend trained in physical rehab, she can now at least stand with assistance.

Unfortunately, Cindy cannot return to the rehabilitation facility, and the process to obtain disability and social security assistance is proving long and mired with beaurocratic annoyances. This has left Cindy in the care of myself and her sister Joy for the past two months, and we do not have the ability or resources to provide her with the care she needs.

While we wait on the process of disability approval to move through, I have found a location for assisted living in Gastonia that would allow me to be near Mom and let her have a little more freedom and care than I can give her at my home.

Assisted living comes at a cost, but my family and I cannot bear this cost alone. Being out of other options, I must turn to you.

We need $̶2̶8̶0̶0̶ (see update) plus fees to cover a single month's living expenses. It only pushes the goalposts back another 30 days to figure out what comes next, but it's a precious 30 days. It should be noted that this does not begin to address other outstanding medical debts, but this is the issue that needs to be addressed immediately.

I ask from the bottom of my heart what you can spare to help our family find our way through this. Donations large or small, within your means, are appreciated more than words can express. My goal is to raise at least a month's time for her stay. Any additional funding will go to a second month if needed and then work towards her outstanding medical debts and quality of life items such as a functional wheelchair, personal hygiene equipment, and clothes she can more comfortably wear.
