I write the HuffPost/Long Island City Astoria Journal blog Astoria Characters, which profiles the insanely interesting people in my Queens, New York City, neighborhood. See AstoriaCharacters.com.

Since 2009, I have written the weekly blog without compensation and have profiled more than 400 people, many of them  immigrants, who live in Astoria, America's most ethnically diverse neighborhood.

The money raised will be used to buy a new camera and to continue to produce the blog.
