Astro-Turf facility for Caherline NS
Donation protected
We recently received the fantastic news that Caherline N.S. has been granted €50,000 from the Sports Capital grant to develop a multi-sports astro-turf facility on the school grounds. It is our intention to make this facility available to the clubs and organisations in the community/parish who may need to use it also for sporting activities, at no cost.
The location of this facility will be on the existing playing pitch at the front of the school grounds, beside the main front gates. This is wonderful news for the school and for the parish of Caherline/Caherconlish. This facility will be a great asset to the school for many different reasons, including:
-It will increase yard space/playing area on the school grounds during break and lunch.
-The current pitch is only usable for two months of the school year. This will allow this area to be used all the year for break/lunch, P.E. lessons and for many other school activities/sports.
-It will provide a safe and enclosed playing area for pupils in our school, which is fantastic for all pupils.
-It will allow the school to have after-school training on the school grounds.
-It will provide a softer playing surface for sports and other activities.
This list is endless.
While it is fantastic that we have acquired €50,000 and we are extremely grateful to the Department of Sports for the funding, unfortunately this is not enough funding to develop the facility. The school is currently tendering for the project. We will require roughly an additional €50,000 for this project which will have to be raised through fundraising events.
The first fundraising event that the school will be taking part in, is a sponsored walk on Saturday, 2nd of April. Following the walk, there will be a Bake Sale in the Old School at 11am, where everyone is welcome to join us for treats and refreshments.
As the walk is on the same day as the "Climb with Charlie Bird" fundraiser, a donation from the money raised through this sponsored walk will be made to Charlie Birds fundraiser, on behalf of the school. Perhaps, people may decide to use the school walk, to support Charlie Birds fundraising walk on the same day as well.
We are extremely grateful to all who support us with this fundraiser. This facility will be a wonderful asset to the school and community for many generations to come.
