Asuna's Journey To See The World
Asuna Charlie J. is a vibrant baby girl. Asuna is affectionately named Nalíí Girl by her Grandma Ophelia. Her parents are Branson Johnson and JCynthia Lee of Gallup, New Mexico. When Asuna was four months old she was diagnosed with a rare congenital eye defect known as Fetal Persistent Vasculature Syndrome (PFVS) in both eyes causing vision loss. PFVS occurs when the Vitreous (gel-like substance filled inside the eye that promotes eye growth and provides nourishment to the eye) fails to regress and clear up during baby's development. PFVS requires corrective surgery by a Pediatric Ophthalmologist to preserve any vision she may have or at least give her a change to have low acuity vision. There are only two hospitals in the US who have the capability to perform this procedure. Eye Associates of New Mexico (EANM) referred Asuna to Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. Asuna and her parents journeyed to Michigan in March 2017. Due the uniqueness and rarity of her condition, all future follow up appointments and treatments will be in Michigan. We do not know how often she will travel to Michigan. Branson and JCynthia have been covering travel expenses locally, but will need assistance for future hospital visits and stays. Branson works as much as he can to provide for Asuna and JCynthia. Since the beginning of this campaign, Asuna has continued to thrive in other aspects of growth. All donations will be greatly appreciated. #BePartofaVision
