We are truly overwhelmed by all the messages of support and love from everyone and asking to help and support Atata Island.
We are so thankful to hear that All Atata Island People are safe and have now been evacuated to Nuku’alofa.
As you know Most of the Village Houses have been destroyed or damaged, a thick layer of ash is covering everything and in particular the crops in the village plantation, putting the tank water undrinkable. Not to talk about the animals left on the island. The evacuated Villager are on the mainland and are relying on family members (They have no Clothes, No real support and no mean except their family support)
The resort which has been one of the employer and support to the village has been washed away except one of the building (office fale) which has been damaged beyond repairs. Thank God for that structure because it helped the Manager's Family and Staff to seek refuge on the roof. The Resort will certainly be closed for a long time and may be for good. We just recovered from Cyclone Gita destruction.

At this stage we are not sure of the needs for Atata Village, but It will be massive and will need immediate support (Clothes, Food, Water, Money) then an ongoing support to rebuild their life on Atata.
I know, suppose and hope that there will be foreign aid available but as you know it takes time.
Any help and support would be greatly appreciated and will be distributed directly to Atata Families.
To tell you about me. I am Bruno Dubois – one of the main owners of The Royal Sunset Island Resort and involved with Tonga for over 25 years. I live in Melbourne with my daughter Stephanie who is half Tongan and related to the Atata Village by her grandfather.
I have opened a separate bank account in Australia which will enable to keep visibility to the funds which will be transferred to Tonga as needed.
