For Haiti

I am starting a gofundme to help raise money for missions to Haiti. Why? Neil’s dad Maurin is from Haiti. Maurin goes back to his hometown Fort Liberte whenever he can to bring food, medicine, clothes, toiletries, etc. He also helps organize medical missions that bring much needed services and resources to tens of thousands of people in the underserved region of Fort Liberte and its surrounding area. These include everything from free meals and water, health education, toys, school supplies and uniforms, medicines, preventative care, and even surgeries. A lot of this was halted during Covid. When Maurin came to visit us this past weekend, he shared so many stories from his missions down there. Haiti is full of history, community, and beauty. But despite being so rich in culture, Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere. In addition to political instability slowing Haiti’s social and economic development, Haiti is often devastated by record-shattering hurricanes, earthquakes, landslides, flooding. And even before Covid, it was prone to epidemics like Cholera. When faced with the daunting task of rebuilding their lives over and over again, the country has stood up each time with the help of its own community, and folks like Neil’s dad returning home to lend a hand. I know we can help. Maurin has no idea that I’m doing this. I want to surprise him with it. I know doing this will bring him much joy, even if I don’t raise a lot.
