ATL Community Fridge Takeover
Donation protected
Free99Fridge was established with a simple idea: Eating healthy, daily meals shouldn’t be a privilege.
According to a 2010 USDA study, there is approximately 133 billion pounds and $161 billion worth of food wasted a year. Why not redistribute the food to the people?
Free99Fridge is a local mutual aid initiative that is working to establish fridges and pantries all over the greater Atlanta area - open 24/7 offering healthy, FREE food access powered by the people.
Ever since creating our Instagram (@Free99Fridge) in mid-July, we’ve been able to source second-hand refrigerators and begun the extensive process of getting them planted around Atlanta. We currently have 6 locations (7 fridges) open to the community and at least 4 more locations pending.
This solidarity project is a large undertaking, so we’ve been relying on the support of our neighbors and volunteers through the donations of money, fridges, construction materials, and MORE to help us build up community - one fridge at a time. Without them, NONE of this would have been possible!!
We want these fridges to be in our community for the long haul — and we would love your help in doing so. We are currently raising money to support + scale Free99Fridge operations. Funds will be used to help us pay for:
- Food to keep our fridges stocked for the community family
- Website development
- Materials and tools to build + maintain our community fridge network
- Operating costs for our current and expanded fridge network
- Gas + other transportation costs for sourcing food + fridges
- Transport vehicle + maintenance fund
- Leased warehouse space to build community fridges + store supplies/materials
We are really excited to be able to continue creating these spaces as a resource for our city! Since starting this project, we've developed enriching partnerships with other local food rescuers + nonprofit organizations + community farm initiatives to further feed ALL people in Atlanta.
All dollars donated will help us in our mission to maintain these spaces where our neighbors can access free food when they need it. If we all give a little, we can make a BIG impact on our city! We can't wait to see how the fruits of our labor of love evolve for our community family <3
