Introducing Atlantics X
Astro Nautico is a record label co-curated and directed by artists Paul Jones, Bennett Kuhn, and Sam O.B. in New York and Philly. Today, Astro Nautico’s community of artists faces new and unpredictable financial difficulties due to COVID-19 and its global economic fallout.
For some it's a lost tour (or two or three). For others, it's no meds, no food, and/or rent precarity. Several artists in our extended community have urgent priorities related to housing, immigration status, health care, and/or personal finances. Few of us know when things in the industry will return to normal, or what “normal” will mean from here on out.
Ten years has taught us that music communities grow and look out for one another online. We know music and healing and the work of justice often go hand and hand. And we know that money doesn't typically flow into the hands of artists in need even under ‘normal’ circumstances, let alone during an emergency. It takes an intervention to help direct resources where they should be and to keep the music coming.
Join us in honoring the knowledge, craft, and experience of these artists by donating to Atlantics X, the largest social art project Astro Nautico has ever undertaken.
Atlantics X is a series of releases of original singles, EPs, music videos, albums, and compilations by Astro Nautico artists released in a collective campaign to establish an emergency microfund serving artists in our network with outstanding needs.
Our goals are based on an internal needs assessment we conducted in April and May 2020.
Goal 1: We plan to pay our most vulnerable artists as soon as funding is available. (Total: $1,850)
Goal 2: All other artists will receive equal payments during monthly disbursals until their individual goals are hit. (Total: $8,450)
Goal 3: If and only if we have met all our artists’ goals for fundraising, we will raise an additional 35% for Astro Nautico itself to cover the overhead costs of running a half-year campaign of releases (including fees for legal, accounting, GoFundMe, subscriptions, and other administrative expenses). (Total: $3,605)
Goal 4: If we raise more than the above goals (greater than $13,905), then we’ll apply all surplus funds we raise to either repeating the project or making a one-time donation to a health justice organization of our choice.
How does it work?
Bandcamp donations, streaming revenue, and donations here on GoFundMe all contribute to our emergency fund.
Because Bandcamp and streaming revenue is a comparatively slow way to imagine raising our goal, we’re really depending on GoFundMe donations to immediately support our community!
Our total goal is based on the concrete needs of artists in our global network, according to an internal poll conducted in April and May 2020.
More than twenty artists living in unceded territories of the United States, Russia, and Japan have expressed unmet needs. We're offering each of them up to $500 of emergency support and buffering for additional expenses associated with releasing the music, contracting legal and accounting services, and other administrative costs.
Even if we meet our goal, please keep donating within your means and/or sharing this campaign. Every dollar that you contribute here is part of a larger movement to address health inequities through music.

Please donate today whatever's within your means and/or share this campaign.
Atlantics X stands for the indefinite variable – x – another decade of Astro Nautico ahead — and its constants: the marriage of music, community building, and health justice.
