Atlas’s Medical Expenses
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Talisha, and I am a co-worker to Atlas’ mom, Kelsey. I quickly discovered while working with Kelsey that story time on Atlas is usually the high point of my workday, whether its hearing about Atlas’s accomplishments, funny comments made during a family game of "Operation", or the fact that the family can't leave their home without his favorite sunglasses and a bag of brown M&Ms ONLY before daycare. It became imperative for me to do everything in my power to assist Kesley after learning about his health conditions and overhearing a few of Kelsey’s phone calls from nurses.
Atlas, a striving 3-year-old full of life, jokes, and creativity, was diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome at 1.5 years old, which is rare and only occurs in 2 out of every 100,000 kids. Studies have found that kidney failure occurs in 20% of the kids who have nephrotic syndrome. Atlas has been hospitalized 5 times, 3 of those which were kidney related. He has had 2 rounds of infusions and is looking at another round potentially. Each infusion takes about 8 hours. Atlas’s parents are phenomenal and have gone above and beyond to ensure that he has received the best care he deserves; however, resources and support are scarce because his condition is so uncommon.
The family recently downsized extensively to merely create a dent in their medical debt. Though unsuccessful, the family has extended a great deal of effort trying to find additional support/resources to assist with medical coverage. The financial burden on the family is very severe because they must pay for many of the medical costs out of pocket. Although, the parents are both gainfully employed; the extensive medical expenses have completely drained their savings; and due to the rarity and requirements of treatment, there is little to no financial help for the family. The parents will incur debt of over $10,000 out- of -pocket expenses each year for the next 16 years. Atlas is currently in need of a surgery that will cost the family an additional $14,000 out- of- pocket. This is not including aftercare cost and medication. All of Kelsey’s paid-time-off has been exhausted due to Atlas’ previous procedures.
All proceeds raised through this link will be used to pay for Atlas' past medical bills as well as future procedures. No donation is too big or too small. Support, whether its monetary, a prayer, share, and any resources that you have is greatly appreciated as well.
