Support ATO whistleblower Richard Boyle

When Australian Taxation Office whistleblower Richard Boyle takes the stand in his criminal trial in November 2025, it will be eight and a half years since he first expressed concerns about the now discredited Garnishee Directive from ATO leadership that mandated the widespread and indiscriminate use of oppressive garnishee notices. Issued into a robodebt-style culture of revenue-raising and arbitrary income targets, these notices were to be pursued regardless of the often horrific impact on the targeted taxpayers.

These eight and a half years have been a time of constant psychological, physical and emotional and financial stress for Richard and his wife Louise, all despite Richard’s whistle-blowing being vindicated by the Tax Ombudsman, the Small Business Ombudsman and a Senate inquiry. Even the prosecutors of his criminal case accept that Richard is a legitimate whistle-blower.

In the past and coming month, Richard has been campaigning around the country, speaking out about whistleblower protections, meeting and greeting people similarly affected by government overreach and/or inaction, and attending court cases to support other victims of abuse and alleged criminality by ATO officers.

We have set up this GoFundMe with the support of Richard and Louise to raise a small financial buffer for them as they endure these next 12 uncertain months and to ensure they can continue their national advocacy in support of other whistleblowers. Huge resources have had to be committed to his ongoing criminal case and, whilst they remain incredibly grateful to Richard’s lawyers and to the Legal Services Commission of South Australia for their ongoing support, this fund will be for Richard and Louise’s personal use, particularly to cover the costs of their travel and accommodation.
