Help Restore Robin's Eyesight
Don protégé
In August 2014, 58-year-old Robin Carol Blum went blind. To this day, even under the guidance of top Neuro-ophthalmologists, the cause of her devastating illness remains undiagnosed. Basically, her optic nerves died! Within the last 15 months, Robin, originally from Baltimore and now living in Washington DC, has been re-creating her life with a White cane. This has been a daily struggle. The loss of her independence, job at the Department of Homeland Security and the ability to paint or even read is overwhelming. Doctors are conducting a revolutionary Stem Cell clinical trial operation in Margate, Florida. The only doctor in America, Dr. Jeffrey Weiss and his team remove Stem Cells from the patient's hip bone marrow and transplant then into the optic nerve for regeneration. The operation's success rate is extremely positive. A man from Nashville went from being completely blind to driving with in six months! Please watch this video:
Because it is a clinical trial sponsored by NIH, health insurance will unfortunately not cover the operation's expenses. It's a scary and dark world now for Robin, eager to have the operation in hopes of regaining her vision. Who of us, wouldn't? Imagine not being able to do the little things we take for granted, like pick up your kids from school, see your mother's smile or even watch the new Star Wars movie. The cost is $21,000, including airfare and hotel for a week of pre and post-op. The proceedure is scheluled for May 17, 2016.
Robin wants to continue volunteering at her animal shelter, fostering homeless dogs and cats again. She has written a poignant story that was published in the
Washingtonian magazine, January, 2016 edition:
She has also been painstakingly writing a blog from the day she went blind, which can be seen on Tumblr called legallyblindblonde. Giving Robin her life back means so much! The hope is for her to regain sight within 3 to 6 months after the operation. Thank you now for being so generous and thank you for her future.
