Help Aubri McCune Battle Cancer
Donation protected
Hello everyone, my name is Caedon Vogel, but I'm not here to talk about myself today. I'm here to talk about my girlfriend, Aubri McCune.
Aubri McCune is 19 years old and is truly a shining light in this world. She is the kindest and most empathetic person I know, and is my best friend and the love of my life. She loves theatre and all of its facets, especially singing and acting. She's loved music from an extremely young age, and plays guitar often. She is the kind of person who just makes TONS of friends. I couldn't tell you a single person from high school that didn't like her, so obviously, she was not only class president, but also the prom queen. Not only is she likable and kind, but she's also extremely intelligent. She was chosen as part of our school's Elite 20 (teachers vote on the top students in the grade), and I was proud to be up there with her. On TOP of all of that, she's quite literally the funniest person I know. She is hilarious and has the wit to make anyone laugh. As you can see by the length of this paragraph, I could go on for days about Aubri, but I won't waste your time. Let's get down to why this GoFundMe exists.
After the end of our first semester of college, a group of us were playing games at a friend's house when I walked over to Aubri to give her a shoulder massage. When I did, I felt a large lump in the right side of her neck, and immediately, I was concerned. I pointed it out, and we talked about getting it checked out by a doctor as soon as possible. That was when it began.
Multiple doctor appointments later, most of them weren't very concerned. They said, "since the lump moves, it likely isn't cancer," so that's what we believed for some time. One doctor recommended that we still get a biopsy done anyway, just to be certain, and I'm incredibly thankful that we did. The first biopsy was inconclusive. The surgeons took out too small of a sample and were unable to determine the results, so they decided just to remove it.
One slice and restitch later, the lump was gone and in for testing. Soon enough, Aubri received a call. Near the end of our freshman year in college, and four or five months after first finding the lump, she was officially diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
Hodgkin's Lymphoma is, "a type of cancer that affects the lymphatic system, which is part of the body's germ-fighting immune system. In Hodgkin's lymphoma, white blood cells called lymphocytes grow out of control, causing swollen lymph nodes and growths throughout the body" (mayoclinic.org).
So, here we are now. She has attended multiple varying appointments: some are directly for her cancer, some are at the dentist trying to figure out if they can remove her wisdom teeth before chemo, and some are at the fertility clinic because her chemo has a chance of making her infertile. These past few weeks have been an overwhelming spiral of events, primarily due to finals week on top of all of this terrifying craziness.
After some more appointments and a PET scan, her cancer was diagnosed as Stage 2. It has progressed into her throat/thorax and a bit in her chest but hasn't affected her major organs. She recently received her port surgery, preparing her to start chemotherapy whenever she's ready (probably around two weeks from today, May 13, 2022). Facebook Post
Now, we're focused on the future. In an effort to help her out as much as possible and to have funds for my next year at college, I'm going back to work nearly full time. Even so, I can't use all of my money to support her, but she can't work due to the side effects of her chemotherapy. This means that she won't be able to pay for her gas money to go from appointment to appointment, her food/groceries, her college payments, and any other various bits of spending.
So, I wasn't sure what amount to ask for on this GoFundMe. All I want is for money to be the least of her worries while going through all of this. We have support from our families, but we just want to ensure that it's enough and that we aren't struggling through an already challenging time.
We know that this is far from the worst it could be, and in fact, it's looking reasonably positive. Aside from dealing with the terrible effects of chemo, we have been lucky thus far. We caught it at an early stage, it's one of the most treatable cancer types, and she'll have to go through only approx. 4-6 months of chemotherapy. Overall not awful, considering how terrible the situation could have been and comparing our situation to others. We are relatively well off.
But still, we are asking for help because we're scared. Terrified, in fact, so much so that this whole situation feels surreal, like we're living in a nightmare. We need help to stay positive and stay afloat, dealing with the overwhelming nature of this awful disease. So please, anything you could donate to Aubri to help her, help me, or even our families and friends, please consider donating. Once all of this is over, we'll finally have time to take a breath, and thank each and every one of you who helped us through. But right now, I'd like to start by thanking you, the reader. Thank you for taking in all of this information, for looking at the pictures, for listening to her story, and for watching the video. Truly, it means the world that you took the time to try to help, so thank you.
The funds raised will only be used for the following:
- Medical bills & copayments
- Emergency fund (car problems, medical accidents, etc.)
- Medical / Cleaning supplies to sterilize her living space often to avoid the risk of sickness during chemotherapy
- Gas money to drive to her various appointments
- Food / Groceries for her and her family
- College expenses (payments may include tuition, housing, loans, or others).
- Other various personal care necessities (wigs, headgear, toiletries, various products, vitamins & medicine, etc.).
If there are funds remaining upon completion of her chemotherapy, we will donate them to the charity of Aubri's choice.
If there is anything I missed before the submission of this form, I'll do my best to edit and include it later, though I'm unsure if that's a possibility. Now, I'm trying to get this out into the world ASAP, because who knows what the next months will bring? All I know is that we need to be prepared for anything. (Edit 1: I CAN edit this later! If there's anything I missed, I'll be sure to update this!)
Again, thank you sincerely for reading and for donating. The McCune and Vogel families appreciate your support as we battle this together. We're all rooting for Aubri to crush this battle, but we'll overcome it easier with your help.
Thank you.
From, Caedon Vogel, Aubri McCune, and the McCune & Vogel families.
