Audrey Strong: Audrey's Battle with Leukemia

Donation protected
After one year of being cancer free, our sweet Audrey relapsed in October of 2023. The return of her leukemia resulted in intense chemotherapy; however, this form of treatment was deemed to be insufficient as her plan of care. Audrey's medical team decided the best option would be a bone marrow transplant. Her younger sister, Abigail, would be the bone marrow donor.

In March, Audrey, Abigail, and family traveled from Norfolk, VA to Duke Children's Hospital in Durham, NC for this procedure. The transplant was successful, and Audrey has engrafted, meaning the transplanted blood-forming cells have started to grow and make healthy blood cells.

Although we are incredibly grateful for the success of the transplant, the recovery period has been extremely difficult for the family. Audrey and mom, Cathy, are staying in Durham, NC for 100 days as Audrey remains under observation and attends daily doctor appointments. Audrey's dad, Bryant, and her three younger siblings are back home in Norfolk, VA. Bryant and the kids make the 3-hour drive to be with Audrey and Cathy weekly.

Any donations would be greatly appreciated as they would go towards hospital copays, travel costs, and day-to-day expenses.

From the bottom of our hearts, the Estrada family expresses our deepest gratitude for all the thoughts and prayers!
