Help Audrey Recover from Two Life-Changing Accidents
Hola, I’m Audrey. If you don’t already know me, I grew up riding dirt bikes with my dad, family, and friends. Riding has always been my passion—it gives me a sense of freedom, challenges me, and brings me closer to the people I love.
My Journey Through Trauma & Recovery
In April 2021, I suffered a severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) and pulmonary contusion in a dirt bike accident at Ocotillo Wells. I was airlifted to the hospital, and after being released, I struggled with terrifying symptoms—trouble walking, cognitive impairments, and unexpected seizures. My son had to take care of me, drive me to endless doctor appointments, and witness things no child should have to see.
Two months after my accident, I thought I was okay to drive. I passed out behind the wheel and had no idea where I was or how I got there. I later found out that I had an epileptic seizure caused by my TBI. After months of waiting, I was finally diagnosed with post-concussion syndrome and epilepsy, a lifelong condition. My driver’s license was medically suspended for nearly a year at a time due to my seizures, making it even harder to regain my independence.
Despite the struggles, I remained hopeful. I joined a TBI and spinal injury support group, met others facing similar challenges, and found strength in their stories. I refused to let my diagnosis define me.
Another Devastating Accident
After years of recovery, I was finally seeing progress. On January 5th, 2024, I was medically cleared to drive again—I was overjoyed, feeling like I was getting my life back.
But just a week later, I was in another dirt bike accident. This time, I was airlifted to Loma Linda Trauma Center and hospitalized for a week. Thankfully, my 6D helmet protected my head, but I still suffered:
A grade 3 broken collarbone with multiple fractures
Multiple broken ribs
A broken hand and fingers
Severe abrasions across my back, hip, arms, and elbows
I underwent surgery on my right hand and am currently awaiting my collarbone surgery date.
Why I’m Asking for Help
I’ve always been private about my struggles, but I’ve reached a point where I need help. I have used up all my savings while waiting for assistance, and I need financial support to cover:
Medical bills & upcoming collarbone surgery
Living expenses while I recover
Ongoing epilepsy treatments & neurology appointments
I know some people may judge me for getting back on the bike. I understand the risks, and I accept the consequences. But riding is more than a hobby—it’s a part of who I am, a connection to my late brother, and a bond I share with my son. I refuse to let epilepsy or fear control my life.
If you can donate anything at all, I would be forever grateful. If you can’t, I completely understand, but please share my story. Every bit of support means the world to me.
Thank you for reading, for your kindness, and for helping me get through this difficult time.
With love and gratitude,
Audrey
