August Emergency Surgery

Hey all, this is our dog August, he's an Australian Cattledog-Collie mix, and he's our best friend. Like a lot of dogs out there, he is the center of our universe and we can't imagine life without him in it. Unlike a lot of dogs however, August isn't just our dog, August is a therapy dog, meaning that every week, dozens of people partake in animal assisted therapy with him. He helps adults, children, and teens work through complex trauma, build confidence, and helps them with emotional regulation.

Last week, August became very ill. He threw up everything he ate, then stopped eating or going to the bathroom all together. We were told by our vet that he had a blockage in his intestines that was causing gas to build up in his stomach, causing it to swell and press against his other organs. It was made clear to us that this was a life threatening situation.

We were faced with an impossible choice that every pet owner dreads: spending money we don't have to get emergency surgery, or saying goodbye to our best friend. We decided that we would do whatever it took to have more time with our boy and keep him in the world. August underwent surgery and after a few days of recovery, is back at home now. We were able to finance his surgery and defer payment, but we are now scrambling to pay down the final bill. We are humbly asking for any help we can get to pay for August's treatment.

August is beloved by everyone he meets. We believe the world is truly a brighter place with him in it.
