Augusta Skatepark Expansion
Tax deductible
On April 27, 2020 the Maine skateboarding community lost a very special person to a tragic car accident. Chris Thompson was a fixture at the Augusta Skatepark. His warm smile and welcoming attitude to all skaters regardless of age or ability level left an impression on everyone he came in contact with. At only 19 years old Chris was not only a talented skater, but an artist and businessman as well. He had his own clothing company and sold handmade clothes to people all over the world.
The Augusta Skatepark opened in July of 2010 on Bangor St. Behind Damon's and next to McDonald's at Williams Park. The skatepark is concrete, free to use, and has served us well for a decade. The addition to the park would add some more beginner friendly obstacles. The skatepark is one of the best in the state, but very "full," and can be intimidating to younger skaters and scooter riders.
Chris’ passing left a hole in the Maine skateboarding community, and we want to celebrate and memorialize his life in the most appropriate way possible - an addition to the skatepark. Our goal is to raise $100,000 and break ground on an addition in the spring of 2021. Our intent would be to provide a budget and put the project out as a design build. To date, we have raised over $25,000.
