"Aunque me Vaya Lejos" for Refugiados Unidos
Hi! My name is Margot Conde Arenas, the director and creator of the film 'Aunque me Vaya Lejos' (Even if I go far), which is part of Fringe of Colour Films 2021. All donations received will go to Venezuelan refugee foundation, Refugiados Unidos.
“Aunque me vaya lejos” (2020, Even if I go far) is a short film that explores the Venezuelan migration crisis and shares the stories of Venezuelan immigrants, refugees and ‘caminantes’ (walkers) in their own voices. The stories told are visually reflected through projections of images and videos of Venezuela and Colombia (from newsreels and collaborators), and of Glasgow (filmed by director) layered and combined with choreographed movement in silhouette.
This film would not have been possible without the collaboration and relationship made with Refugiados Unidos, a foundation led by refugees and Venezuelan women that was founded in Bogotá to strengthen and work with the displaced population from Venezuela. Latin America and the Caribbean are experiencing the largest exodus in their modern history. More than 6 million refugees and migrants have left Venezuela in the last 5 years and close to 2 million have crossed the border into Colombia. Our objective is to support their inclusion in the receiving communities with legal, humanitarian and psychosocial accompaniment to promote access to their human rights. Our community mobilisation is aimed at strengthening the refugee population as a generator of solutions to the problems they face and recognising their capacities and rights to self-determination. Refugiados Unidos promotes community empowerment by building dialogues with communities, other civil society foundations and national and international organisations.
All donations received will go to Refugiados Unidos for their essential work and fight for Venezuelan refugees. Thank you so much for donating!
