Aurora Challenges the Camino

Donation protected
My name is Roman Urbanski and this is my daughter Aurora, who will soon be 13.
Aurora has Cerebral Palsy and to date her life has been a challenge, one that she has met head on without complaint, at times with frustration but more often than not with grace and good humour.

Her early life was fraught with eating difficulties, muscle cramps and spasms and the possibility of being legally blind. She was extremely sensitive to anything new  - people, surroundings etc.

In June 2012 Aurora embarked on a massive experience that had her stand at the crossroads for her health. It was discovered that her hips and thighs were causing her serious health concerns. The femurs were straight in shape instead of being angled. This coupled with her tight hamstrings had her hips being 2/3 dislocated. If this wasn't rectified immediately through surgery the probability of her being bed ridden and in perpetual pain was very real.

Thanks to the brilliance of Professor Kerr Graham and the dedicated team at the RCH in Melbourne the surgery was a success although the rehabilitation and recovery were very long and at times difficult. This coupled with the therapy programs at her school including horse riding and her indomitable spirit have meant that Aurora is now ready to turn the tables and challenge life.

Aurora's favourite things to do apart from school are to go on adventures on the train, big walks along the Yarra and meeting people. She also likes going out to eat, trying new foods and watching people.

In September this year Aurora and I want to go to northern Spain to walk the Camino de Santiago. Our plan is to walk from Pamplona 702 km to Santiago de Compostela in 35 days. We have applied for funding of an all-terrain wheel chair and have written letters for sponsors to cover our costs.
The money raised will cover our airfares and train travel to start as well as accommodation and food.

Airfares to/from Madrid                                    - $4000

Trainfare to Pamplona                                        - $150
                     from Santiago                                     - $140

Accommodation/food for 35 day walk       - $11000
via Caminoways

Accommodation/food Madrid                        - $500

The trip means that Aurora can have an adventure in life that is not about or limited by Cerebral Palsy. It is  a reward for her for all her strength, perserverance and courage to continue everyday with a smile. It also wouls show others in similar situations that people and their generosity can help you reach your dreams regardless of what obstacles may be before you.

Aurora is the most amazing person I have ever met because of who she is and how she responds to her life, she is an inspiration to me and I want her to be able to have opportunities that everyone else has.
