Aurora's Fundraiser for Heart Kids
Our 100 Day Walks have come to an end and our baby girl has turned ONE! But our continued dedication to increasing awareness for CHD and Heart Kids will carry on. We are so proud of how our little community has come together to raise awareness and funds for Heart Kids. This has been a heart warming and proud moment for our family and we will remember this experience forever.
Thank you to everyone who has walked, talked, shared and contributed to this worthy cause.

About our challenge
Aurora and her parents will be walking at least 1km a day for 100 days to raise awareness for the 1 in 100 babies affected by Congenital Heart Disease, half of which will need life saving heart surgery.
'There is something wrong with your baby's heart' are not words you imagine you'll hear at your 20 week scan. This was when our life changed forever. Aurora was born with a rare heart condition called Double Outlet Right Ventricle. When Aurora was only 6 weeks old, she underwent lifesaving open heart surgery. Her recovery was complicated but she overcame this enormous challenge with the help of the incredible team at Westmead Children's Hospital. She's now a thriving 9 month old and we could not be prouder and more grateful for her. As Heart Kids ambassadors, we want to help shed some light on this organisation so Heart Kids can continue their incredible work.
Our challenge will start on the 25th of February and will finish on Aurora's 1st Birthday on the 4th of June. Each walk will be somewhere in Sydney or wherever we find ourselves that day. We're hoping that by sharing what Aurora has overcome, we'll start a conversation about CHD and make a difference in a small way.
During our darkest days at Westmead, we longed to return home, we were reminded of the simple things in life- like a walk, a coffee with friends, family time- things we often take for granted. I know it might sound cliche, but those simple pleasures mean so much when your world is turned upside down.
HeartKids is the only national charity dedicated to supporting children, teens and adults affected by congenital heart disease. They fund life saving research, provide information and advocate for these families needs. Support is a commitment for life, because there is no known cure. People with congenital heart disease face unique challenges for their entire life. Once a heart kid, forever a heart kid. Aurora will have medical check ups for the rest of her life but we are optimistic that she wont require any further surgeries.
