Aurora's Wheelchair Fund

This gofundme page was started for my daughter Aurora. She was born with Spina Bifida and as a result has had nine surgeries in her almost twelve years. Aurora is one of the most delightful girls I know, and I'm not just saying that becuase she's my daughter. She really is. She lights up a room when she enters and she makes friends wherever she goes. Even the grocery store.
Turns out she is scheduled for another surgery on April 30, 2015 to repair her scoliosis. Her scoliosis has been monitored for the last 4 years and it's finally so bad that it needs to be repaired and her spine needs to be straightened. It's a long and very involved surgery and recovery. The surgery itself is anywhere from 6-8 hours and she'll be in the hospital for 7 days after the surgery as long as everything goes well and she recovers nicely.
The long term recovery is where the gofundme page comes in. Right now Aurora walks with the assistance of cructches and she wears braces on her feet. After the surgery her ambulatory status (whether or not she'll be able to walk) is unknown. Because of the strain her crooked back has put on her hips it may effect the way she gets around following the surgery. Her surgeon told us to expect her to be in a wheelchair for at least a year after the surgery and possibly her lifetime. She won't be starting any sort of physical therapy until at least six months after the surgery. We won't know if she'll be able to walk until after a few sessions of physical
therapy.
So, in short, she needs a wheelchair and the one we're looking at runs about $2,500 with shipping, plus the traveling to and from Charleston, and I'll be living in the hosptital for a week with her. For some reason, the hospitals only provide food for the patients, so a little of the funds will be used for fuel and food while I'm there. We appreciate any and all help we can get with this. Thank you so much for taking the time to read our story,
