Austin's Road to Recovery

Donation protected
On the afternoon of June 27th, Austin Katter was in a life changing accident when his motocross bike malfunctioned during a practice run in Albany, OR. Austin was thrown from his bike and suffered a severe back injury to the thoracic area of his spine. Austin was taken to Salem Hospital for 5 hours of emergency surgery to remove fragments of his vertebrae, fuse the injured vertebrae, insert titanium implants to realign his spine, and relieve pressure from his spinal cord. He has been hospitalized since the day of the accident, four of those days being cared for in the ICU.  He is currently waiting to be transferred to Craig Hospital in Englewood, Colorado, a premier spinal cord injury rehabilitation facility. The only thing we know for sure is that Austin needs the very best care to make the most of his current circumstances. He is ready to work hard and hopeful to make a full recovery. We are confident that Craig Hospital is the best place for him.

Austin graduated last year from Summit High School in Bend, OR. He just completed his freshman year at the University of Oregon and is majoring in accounting. He is a proud member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and loves being an Oregon Duck. His dream is to take over the family business in Bend after graduating from college.  He is an accomplished athlete, a math genius, has a wicked sense of humor and a huge heart. He loves his family, his friends and his pets. We know that his determination and strong will are going to give him the best opportunity to overcome this obstacle.

Austin and his family are asking for your help. His surgery and hospital stay in Salem as well as his upcoming inpatient rehabilitation at Craig Hospital, is financially overwhelming for the family. Austin is very concerned about his foreseeable medical expenses and doesn’t want to put any extra stress on his loved ones. The family will be faced with thousands of dollars of medical costs in the next six months alone and anticipate additional medical expenses in the future.

The family truly appreciates all thoughts, prayers and generosity during this difficult time. Please feel free to share Austin’s information with your family, friends and acquaintances.
