Help Austin Guernsey on his Road To Recovery!!!!
On the afternoon of January 14th, 2017 Austin, a 20 year old Junior attending Husson College, was involved in a terrible snowmobile accident on an icy trail in Presque Isle ME. As a result of the accident he suffered a severed spinal cord rendering him paralyzed. He was airlifted to Eastern Maine Medical Center where he spent many days in ICU and underwent a 7 hour surgery to try and reconstruct his severely damaged spine. He continues to receive care there.
Prior to the accident Austin loved being able to hike, four wheel and snowmobile. He played football and was a power lifter, earning himself a medal at the Maine Games. Austin and and his parents have a long road of recovery ahead of them. At this point it is uncertain all that will entail, but his positive attitude throughout this immense life transition has been such an inspiration. In addition to the overwhelmingly high medical costs, there will be a need for many changes in their home to accommodate his needs.
So many of you have have reached out and asked how you can help, and his family and friends are so grateful for the outpouring of love, support and prayers. You all have been truly amazing. The fact that Austin is still here is a miracle!
The doctors are saying that he may be able to go home in as few as three weeks, which doesn't give us much time to do the renovations necessary to ensure Austin has a home that can accommodate his medical needs, such as adding ramps, widening doorways, opening the floor plan and fixing the bathroom to accommodate his wheelchair.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for anything you can contribute to help Austin and his parents!!
