Update: We got a discount so now only need $1000 more to send Austin!
Hi, this is Austin my amazing 11 yr old. In November of 2022, Austin became suddenly ill and after a trip to ER and a hospitalization, we found out he was Type 1 diabetic. Life hasn’t been easy for this kiddo but he takes it in stride. He is the biggest helper, alwaays worried about everyone else.
At school it is hard to go on field trips because dad or I usually go and its been tough needing to work through them and he misses out. There is no nurse to assist with dosing and any issues that may arise. The school is llanning a three day camping trip and he cannot go because dad and I have to work. I want him to have this chance to be a kid and make friends, which he does amazingly at.
Lately, he has struggled with anxiety and some depression over why he has this illness. He is the only child in his school with Diabetes. He feels alone most of the time and doesn’t have a network of kids to discuss his feelings and fears with, who are going through the same thing.
After his most recent Dr’s appointment, we found out that there is a three week camp for diabetic children called Camp Sweeney. It has Doctors and nurses on staff. It is an opportunity for Austin to interact with kids who also have Type 1 diabetes. Not only that, but he gets to actually be a kid and we don’t have to stress about one of us being there with him. His one dream this year is to attend but we found out it is $4,700 and the sessions start in June. So I am asking if anyone can help to send him to camp this year. Anything that can help we truly appreciate it. We need to raise the money by March 15th as spots are already filling up.
