On July 24th, author Whitney Dean tried to peacefully part ways with her small press publisher after pointing out multiple broken clauses. When her publisher refused and asked Whitney to sign an NDA before discussing the ability to buy her rights back, Whitney was pulled into an unnecessary fight started by JL Vampa

Phantom House Press has requested $6,180 from Whitney twice to cover fees for special editions that were ordered by the owner for a separate business of hers--Wicked Whimsy Boutique. The special editions were ordered in the wrong size, by the owner herself, and she is now expecting Whitney to pay to cover her mistake. Secondly, the owner is expecting Whitney to pay back pre-order money on a book that had no production costs whatsoever to refund buyers--this money never should've been spent by Phantom House Press.

Now, JL Vampa, the owner of both Phantom House Press and Wicked Whimsy Boutique, is suing Whitney for $20,000--claiming defamatory remarks were made about her and that Whitney was the one who breached the contract by republishing her own works under her name, as the legal copyright owner.

Because of this, Whitney and her husband have had to pay thousands of dollars in legal fees to fight this completely unfair battle for a contract broken by the publisher.
