Raising autism awareness and a 1.8mile walk
Donation protected
I would like to carry out a 1.8 mile/3km sponsored walk for autism. I myself was recently diagnosed with Asperger syndrome at the age of 30.
I would like to bring an awareness to others, the general public about autism and how it can affect those living with autism.
How Asperger's syndrome affects me. I am affected by Asperger's syndrome in the following ways; Difficulty in reading facial expressions, understanding people's tone of voice, finding jokes and sarcasm difficult to understand difficulty interacting socially and reading body language and participating in social interaction.
I can sometimes appear to be insensitive although this is unintentional and hurts my feelings when I have found out that I have been insensitive to others. I will seek time away from others in social situations as I can find it overwhelming being around lots of people.
I can and have acted in ways that are socially inappropriate although they appear normal ways to behave and have to be explained that it is not the correct way to act. I have difficulty coping with changes in my routines and feeling out of control which results in leaving me very anxious and stressed.
You may or may not know that people with asperger syndrome often have highly focused interests, mine being anything historical but mainly learning and remembering things about WW2.
My senses are affected I like to smell and touch new things presented to me in my life most often objects or new foods. I have difficulty multi-tasking and focusing on more than one sound and can feel overwhelmed by lots of sounds happening.
