Support the Autism Ukraine Project
Donation protected
There are estimated to be more than 440,000 autistic people living in Ukraine and they are 8-9 times more likely to suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) than the general population.
Project leader, David Higgs MBE, an award-winning autistic writer and photographer, is asking for donations to help bring essential aid and to launch the first human rights investigation into the impact of the war and violence on Ukraine’s autistic community.
His experienced team aims to bring emergency medical kits and other essential equipment, working with the autistic community to develop strategies that enable autistic people to better manage their situation in a war that shows no sign of ending.
As well as distributing aid the team will document the traumatic experiences, but also tremendous courage, resilience, determination and creativity of Ukraine’s autistic community, who have endured two years of unimaginable horror since Putin’s invasion.
David has established a country-wide network of contacts within Ukraine’s autistic community. In total, the team expects to drive more than 4,000 miles to complete the project.
David has launched this project to offer support to Ukraine's autistic community motivated by his own experience of sensory and social overload.
Funds raised will be used to assist in the considerable cost of travel through Ukraine and to bring essential aid in a time of war. Your support for this amazing but often stigmatised and marginalised community would be greatly appreciated.
