Hi, my name is Denise Archer and I would like to introduce you to my Son Tyler, his wife Christine, and their children, my grandchildren, Elena-7, Skylar-5, and Elias-4. Tyler and Christine have both been diagnosed as being on the spectrum. Tyler is high functioning Asperger’s while Christina is slightly worse. Elena is very smart while both Skylar and Elias are also on the spectrum.
Tyler works a minimum wage job to support his family and I help with groceries, gas, and rent. Christina is unable to work but is a great stay-at-home Mom and receives a small government assistance check. Most of the time things are tight but they get by with a little help from me.
But this time the bill is going to be bigger than even I can help with. It all started when earlier this year Tyler and I were on the freeway in separate cars heading to a friend’s house. A truck merged in between us just as the car in front of me stopped. I stopped but the trick behind me did not and rear-ended me. Just I looked up to see if the driver of the truck was ok, as
he was pushed forward into the rear of my car again when the car behind him hit him.
The car that rear-ended the truck happened to be my son. Although Tyler tried to swerve off he still hit the front driver’s side of his car on the passenger side of the truck’s rear bumper, totaling his car. Long story short, the total fault of the accident was split 25% on the truck and 75% on Tyler. Although Tyler’s insurance paid off his car there was no extra money for a down payment on a new car so I took what I had in savings and we went shopping for a used car.
My Dad and Step-Mom live in Las Vegas and they encouraged us to come to Vegas to look for a car so we went and ended up at Findlay Cadillac as they were advertising a 2010 Jeep for $12,000. We ended up buying the car from them and even though they said they put the car through a 60 point inspection it has been one repair after another – The battery, the alternator, the car computer, and now it looks like because the water pump was faulty and the car overheated to the point it cracked the block and the engine needs to be replaced.
The estimated cost of the new engine is going to be around $5,000 with labor. But it is not just the cost of the new engine that worries me. If Tyler does not have a car to get to work and back in time to pick up my granddaughter from school that would mean my daughter-in-law would have to walk the mile or so to and from Elena’s school with the 2 little ones, Skylar and Elias and it is about to be cold and rainy.
