Autistic Swing Stand
Hello friends and family. As some of you may or may not know, I'm coming up on my 2nd year as a Judson ISD Police Officer. In this time, I have had the pleasure of getting to know many, many students. I can truly say I have been impacted in a positive and rewarding way.
One of these students who has impacted me in a HUGE way is a non-verbal autistic 6th grader. He loves to be picked up and swung back and forth. He loves to be hugged and feel safe. He has completely stolen my heart. When I asked if the special education department had a swing to put him in, as this would help with his stemming issues, I was told there wasn't one. When I asked why we didnt have one, I was told because there was no place to hang one from the false ceiling, they would need a stand and they couldn't afford one because of the low funding budget. I was kind of upset by this, but instead of just being mad and disappointed the district couldn't fund a swing stand, I decided to try to get the funds together myself. After careful research and talking with the head sped teacher, I learned the best option was the Dura Swing Frame, $4,999. I knew from the beginning, this wasn't going to be easy, but I'm advocating and fighting for all the kids in the special education department here at my school. I'm asking that if you can't donate, please share so I can reach as many people as possible to make this happen for these kiddos. I know the information is vague however, I'm trying not to violate any policies. Please reach out to me by private message if you have any questions. Thank you. BC
