Top Surgery

Hey,

My name is Will Damarjian (they/them) and I am a non-binary person. I have felt uncomfortable with my body since before I had the language to describe it. I am asking for help to cover the costs since my insurance does not cover this necessary procedure and I consider it absolutely essential for my wellbeing.  After realizing I would be paying for this procedure out of pocket, I found a surgeon in Utah where my family lives and talked to other people to create a rough estimate of how much I will need to raise.


I have been binding (wearing restrictive clothing that flattens my chest) for a year and started taking testosterone over the summer. While I love binding and consider it essential for my mental health and safety as a trans person, it is extremely uncomfortable. I often have long days at school then work all night bartending.


Wearing a binder long term is not only uncomfortable, but also hurts my ribs and is potentially damaging my cartilage. Binding restricts the types of clothing I can wear, and I am frequently uncomfortable in my own apartment because I don’t want my roommates to see me without a binder.

Top surgery would change my life in many ways beyond just alleviating physical pain; it would really make me happy. I have struggled with my mental health for most of my life, but the steps I’ve taken so far to become more honest with myself have given me reasons to live and put me on the path to happiness. Waking up in a body that feels “right” would mean everything to me and feel like a further fulfillment of my dream.
