Ava Handley Medical Fund
San Diego Ballerina, Ava Catherine Handley, performs with the prestigious City Ballet in San Diego. Although Ava is only 12 years old, her talent has her performing with the prestigious City Ballet Junior company at San Diego’s Spreckels Theatre. Ava started ballet at age four, excelling in the art and discipline required to become well on her way to a professional career in Ballet.
Recently, Ava began to suffer from headaches, vision problems and difficulty with balance. On September 19, 2020, Ava began to experience intense pain at the base of her neck. As a Ballerina, Ava has developed a very high tolerance for pain, but this pain brought Ava to tears. Ava’s Mom Becky
found Ava laying on her bed crying due to the intense pain. Immediately Becky realized that Ava needed to go to the hospital. That evening, at the hospital, Ava was diagnosed with a cancerous, inoperable brain tumor in the base of her brain stem. The tumor has affected her vision and balance. Ava is now preparing to undergo the first round of a six week radiation treatment protocol, as well as undergoing immunotherapy treatments.
Ava has a beautiful family surrounding her with love and support. Her father Kevin is a San Diego Police Officer, her mom Becky is a Respiratory Therapist, and her loving brother named Charlie. One of Ava’s favorite pastimes is the yearly family and friends vacation at Bass Lake in the Yosemite area. Please join the team to help Ava and her family beat and defeat the disease.
As Ava begins her fight, supporting her and her family through prayers, encouragement and financial gifts will help ease the stress and burdens that come along with this challenge.
Per Ava’s parents, Kevin and Becky, any funds not used for Ava and medical expenses will be donated to Rady’s Children’s Hospital, or to another family in need.
