Facing Criminal Charges in the Backcountry.
Donation protected
On March 25th my backcountry partner and I were riding a line on the West side of Loveland Pass when new snow released triggering a large scale avalanche that took out a brand new O'bellx avalanche blasting system. We are now being charged with Reckless Endangerment a class 3 misdemeanor and $168,000 in restitution.... This is the first backcountry related legal case that has made it to trial. Every backcountry death, backcountry rescue, and incidents where roadways were covered by avalanches triggered by skiers and riders, have all been dismissed or met a plea deal before ever making it to trial.
